The four main steps of meiosis ii are.

Prophase 2 meiosis. This occurs in the daughter cell. Meiosis refers to the process by which a single diploid cell divides into 4 haploid cells each genetically distinct from the parent cell. Prophase ii the first step of meiosis ii begins with the two daughter cells produced by the first meiotic division see figure right.

As no dna replication takes place in this second step of meiosis the cell division process immediately begins. Prophase ii prepares the cell for secondary meiotic division where two haploid cells eventually form four haploid cells. Meiosis ii begins without any further replication of the chromosomes.

The membrane around the nucleus dissolves and the chromosomes are released. Prophase ii the chromosomes condense forming an x structure. As in prophase i the chromosomes are condensed.

Metaphase 2 anaphase 2 prophase 2. Centrosomes move to the polar regions and arrange spindle fibers for the second meiotic division. In prophase ii the nuclear envelope breaks down and the spindle apparatus forms.

Meiosis is an important part of sexual reproduction in eukaryotes as it provides the raw genetic materials that combine to create a diploid zygote. During this stage of spermatogenesis the cells are called secondary spermatocytes or during oogenesis secondary oocytes. In prophase ii we see the disappearance of the nucleoli and the nuclear envelope again as well as the shortening and thickening of the chromatids.

The centrioles duplicate themselves and the meiotic spindle is formed. Metaphase ii since there are no tetrads in either daughter cell. Meiosis ii occurs in both daughter cells that were formed during meiosis i.
